play by post, done right

We built the play-by-post app we always wanted.

We play our tabletop games by writing, one post at a time, on our own schedule. We got tired of stretching forums and chat apps to fit, so we made a real home for it: dice, character sheets, maps, and the whole story together in one beautiful place, a pleasure to read and write in.

Start a table

Everything a play-by-post game needs, in one place.

Dice that roll once and stay rolled, character sheets that update as you play, maps you move tokens on, and a chronicle of the campaign you can ask questions of. The writing stays the point.

Writing and reading

The writing comes first.

Inkroll is a good place to read and write, first and above all. The posts get the space, the page stays calm, and the tools are there the moment you reach for them.

  • New posts show up live, with a quiet typing indicator and a marker that holds your place
  • Pick the post layout and the look that suit your group
  • Quoted speech, headings, lists, and images, all cleanly styled
Dice and stats

Dice and stats, right in the post.

Roll a check by typing it, as simple as {dmg:1d4+2}. Post as your character, with their portrait and stats attached. You never have to jump to another tab to handle the numbers.

The Chronicle

Catch up on your whole campaign.

Long campaigns pile up a lot of posts. The Chronicle keeps a running recap and answers questions about what happened, so the story stays fresh even when months pass between chapters.

  • A running recap of every chapter and the people you have met
  • Ask a question, get an answer from your own posts
  • Get a new player up to speed in a few minutes
Maps

The map stays with the story.

A drawer beside the composer holds a world map with the party’s position and a per-chapter battle map where tokens snap to the grid. Bring them out as the scene moves, and every post remembers how things stood.

Game systems

Bring your system.

Inkroll comes with ready-made character sheets for Fifth Edition, Pathfinder 2e, Call of Cthulhu, Shadowrun, Grimwild, and Cortex Prime, plus a system-agnostic option, each one built to understand that game’s rules.

There is more to find: campaign statistics, a look you can make your own, and books you can hold.

Secrets go to exactly the players you pick
A world map, a battle map, and scene notes sit next to the composer
A recap gets anyone caught up in a few minutes
Your campaign is yours, and you can export it anytime

Questions, answered.

Is Inkroll real-time?
No, and that is the point. Inkroll is asynchronous. You play in posts, on your own schedule, with no session to line up across time zones.
Do my players need to pay?
Never. Plans apply to the gamemaster who runs the table. Players join and play for free, on every tier.
Do I need to pay to run a good game?
No. The free tier is the whole game: unlimited campaigns, posts, server-rolled dice, character sheets, secrets, imports, and live updates, with no time limit. The paid tiers add extras like custom styling, maps, and the AI chronicle. Nice to have, never required.
Which game systems can I play?
Inkroll comes with ready-made sheets for Fifth Edition, Pathfinder 2e, Call of Cthulhu, Shadowrun, Grimwild, and Cortex Prime, plus a system-agnostic option. You can also build, import, and export your own. If yours is missing, ask us: we add new systems for free when there is a table waiting for them.
Can I bring a game I have already started?
Yes. Import a game from Myth-Weavers or Discord in a single click, and Inkroll brings over the posts, characters, images, and dice results.
How do the dice stay honest?
Every roll is made on the server the moment you post and then frozen, with an audit that lists every roll on a post, including ones since removed. The whole table can see it.
Can I make a campaign look its own way?
Yes. Pick a style for the whole campaign, from candlelit ink to aged parchment, and a reading layout that suits your group.
What is the Chronicle?
A running recap of your campaign that also answers questions about what happened and who you have met, using only your own posts.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Inkroll runs in the browser, on any device, with nothing to download.
Is my writing mine to keep?
Always. Your campaign is yours, on every plan, and you can export it anytime.
